Shipping containers come in many variations in length and width. Containers are typically about 10 feet, 20 feet or 40 feet long and 8 feet wide. Each shipping container has a different height, ranging from normal height (8 feet 6 inches) to "high cube" (9 feet 6 inches), which is often used to expand storage capacity or improve airflow. How to choose the right container size?

Many elements influence the choice of containers for logistics, including the nature of the goods, the means of transportation, the distance traveled and the laws of the country of delivery. There are various types of containers available for logistics; the choice is based on the needs of the cargo. Some typical types include dry containers, refrigerated containers, open top containers, flat rack containers and tank containers. For general cargo, dry containers work best, followed by refrigerated containers for perishable goods, open-top containers for large items, flat rack containers for bulky items, tank containers for liquids and gases and clamshell containers for liquids and gases. Choosing the right container is crucial to ensure that cargo is transported legally, efficiently and safely to its destination.
